Auchendean
Welcomes Gays
(well, all civilised people, actually!)

Owned, Opened and Operated by Gays for 20 years
Bought by Ian in 1986 as a private house, he spent 18 months converting Auchendean into the comfortable enclave that it is today. Eric joined him at the end of 1997 and on 4 January 1998 they opened to the paying public. It was very obvious from the earliest days that Gays appreciated being hosted by Gays for a truly relaxed feeling of being in a Home from Home.
The rest is history!
Good mix of guests - 85% returnees and 30% Gay
About 30% of our guests are gay, lesbian or bi-sexual, and the fact that they come back tells how happy & relaxed they are here!
Many Gays are our best clients coming back time and time again
As a result of our policy to advertise in Gay Scotland and Gay Times, we have built up a large Gay clientel base, almost all of whom come back to us time after time, some several times each year. We have been very lucky to strike the right balance between the right prices, good service; good food and good comfort that makes for a relaxing ambience for all.
GOC (Gay Outdoor Club) and Auchendean
Eric and Ian met as a direct result of The Gay Outdoor Club back in 1985, and we have been members ever since. We hold a special hillwalking / cross-country skiing weekend each year, exclusively for Gay Outdoor Club members and their friends. We try to get out to meetings around Scotland as much as possible but with the inevitable straight-jacket that running the hotel imposes, this sadly doesn't happen all that frequently.
Warm Welcome to ALL
The hotel is not exclusively gay but we have always openly welcomed Gay Men and Women into Auchendean, along with all other civilsed people willing to join our company, pay for our food, bed and hospitality! We encourage civilised social behaviour between all our guests (whether straight or gay). What they do in their own privacy is up to them all.
Comments from new guests "we knew you would be good as we stayed with Gays
before and were astonished by the care & attention to detail put into everything"
Well, we do our level best to ensure everyone is happy with all that we provide - ambience; comfort; service; food.
Ian and Eric's Civil Partnership - 24 April 2006
After being together since meeting in 1985, and with the recent change in the law, Eric and Ian decided to formalise their relationship, so on 24 April 2006 they joined many friends who had already been through their own Civil Partnership Ceremony and signed on the dotted line.... we decided on a small gathering of close friends at the registry office in Edinburgh, and then had a party for local friends at Auchendean on the 25th April.
